The Pan Yoruba Socio-Political Organization, Afenifere, declared Tuesday that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, and not Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the candidate of the All Progressive Congress, had won the February 25 presidential election.
Thus, it claimed that the group supports Obi’s intention to contest the election results in court.
This was said in a statement made following its Extraordinary General Meeting, which took place on Tuesday in Isanya-Ogbo, Ogun State.
Ayo Adebanjo, the group’s national head, and Chief Sola Ebiseni, its secretary general, both signed a statement that denied the organisation ever congratulating a candidate on behalf of the group.
The statement reads in part: “the results of the lawful votes at the election available to the Afenifere through credible sources confirm that His Excellency Peter Gregory Obi, the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, won the said election and we thus support his decision challenging the contrary Declaration by the INEC.
” The General Meeting hereby denounce in strong terms and dissociate Afenifere from any congratulatory message in the name of the Organisation or howsoever to any candidate as illegally declared by the INEC.”
