The Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, “has been accused of trying to treat his principal like retired military dictator Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (IBB) treated MKO Abiola, whose presidential election victory was overturned 30 years ago,” according to Bayo Onanuga, a media advisor to president-elect Bola Tinubu.
According to him, “Obi’s decision to contest the results of the 2023 presidential election, according to Onanuga, is comparable to the IBB’s decision to annul MKO Abiola’s 1993 election.”
Vanguard reported that, On Tuesday night, he tweeted: “Peter Obi of the Labour Party demands the annulment of President-elect Bola Tinubu’s election, just as the military overturned MKO Abiola’s election on June 12, 1993.”
By stating that “Team Tinubu will definitely meet you (Obi) in court, Onanuga made it plain that Tinubu and his followers are prepared to defend their candidate’s election victory.”
Recall, Tuesday morning, “Obi submitted a plea to the Abuja tribunal.”
“Tinubu’s declaration as the victor of the presidential election on February 25, 2023, is being contested by Obi and the Labour Party, LP.”
Vanguard further reported, “They ask the tribunal to rule that Tinubu was not legitimately elected by a majority of the votes cast in the election. They are asking for a court order directing INEC to take back the certificate of return it gave to Tinubu and give a new one to Obi.”
