Foden got the nod over Saka in England’s game against Germany last night. The City winger started off on the right-hand side in a three-man attack with Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling.

Despite a promising first-half, Gareth Southgate’s side found themselves 2-0 down by the 67th minute after goals from Ilkay Gundogan and Kai Havertz.

Southgate decided to bring on Saka and Chelsea man Mason Mount in place of Sterling and Foden after the goals. And both players made a huge impact on the game.

Shaw got England back into the tie in the 71st minute as his shot crept over the line. Then Saka linked up brilliantly with Mount to get England back on level terms just minutes later.

And Foden has claimed that Saka and Mount completely changed the game after coming off the bench.
Foden makes Saka claim

Speaking to Hayters TV after the 3-3 draw, Foden admitted that his replacement Saka came on and made a huge difference.

“We have not been in the best of form but tonight we showed heart and character,” Foden said.

“The people who came on off the bench changed the game as well, so there is nothing to be too sad about. We just have to be confident.”

England thought they had snatched a win after Kane calmly beat Marc-Andre ter Stegen from the spot in the 83rd minute.

Jude Bellingham won the penalty and Saka was once again involved as he played the ball into the Borussia Dortmund man before the incident.

But Havertz latched onto a mistake by goalkeeper Nick Pope in the 87th minute and the Three Lions had to settle for a draw in the end.

Saka will be delighted to have made such a huge impact from the bench after being played out of position against Italy last week.

The 21-year-old lined up at left wing-back in the 1-0 loss to Roberto Mancini’s side and did not look comfortable.

But the Arsenal starlet has now certainly staked his claim for a starting position in Southgate’s side at the World Cup next month.
