The People’s Democratic Party needs to act so fast that it stops the apparent moves of the All Progresives Congress. Mr. Jonathan was at the presidential villa recently to once again have a talk with the president. The meeting between them further raised the rumour that Jonathan would be on his way to the All Progressives Congress. And the main objective is to return to power through the party.
Recall that some APC governors went to meet Jonathan at his Abuja residence. Speculation also says that a northwest APC leader is being tipped to be the running mate of Jonathan. When he was in power, his vice, Mr. Sambo is from the region.
The PDP needs to take some concrete steps to stop the wooing of the former president of the country. The first step to take is to visit him and have a frank talk with him.
The PDP provided an avenue for the former president to reach the milestone. Then, he will be ready to listen to the party.
The PDP still has top leaders. Mr. Bukola Saraki, Mr. Aminu Tambuwal, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Samuel Ortom, Rabiu Kwankwaso (all from north), and Seyi Makinde, Ifeanyi Okowa, Nyesom Wike, among others should have a talk with Jonathan.
If the former president is still much interested in the job of leading the country, there is no problem. They should welcome him on board and allow him to vie for the ticket of the party.
They should categorically inform him that the All Progressives Congress can’t provide avenue for him to get the party’s ticket freely.
There are some persons who have worked for the APC in the past and present. Then, they will want to enjoy the fruits of their struggles.
And if Jonathan tells them that he is not interested in the job anymore, the party leaders should ask him to nominate candidates for the presidential and vice presidential slot.
What the PDP needs is to make him remain committed to the party.
