On Wednesday, August 7, the committee will table the report on the floor of the House for debate before final approval for appointment is made. The approval of the nominees comes despite the committee receiving hundreds of memorandums calling for the rejection of some of the nominees.

Some Kenyans had wanted all the CSs from the dissolved Cabinet to be rejected by the committee. Wetang’ula stated that they received over 1,300 submissions from Kenyans who raised issues with some of the CS nominees.

Kipchumba Murkomen, Hassan Joho, and Aden Duale are among the Cabinet secretary nominees who received the highest memoranda opposed to their candidatures.

However, the committee rejected all the memoranda, citing various grounds, including that instigative authorities had already concluded some of the issues raised and that the respective nominees had been cleared.

In a related development, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) sought to object to the vetting and, by extension, the approval of former Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya into the Cabinet.

The president proposed that the former Kakamega governor heads the Co-operatives and MSMEs Development Ministry.

But in a letter addressed to the clerk of the National Assembly, EACC’s chief executive Twalib Mbarak asked the House to strike Oparanya out of the list of Cabinet nominees awaiting vetting.
