Faith Kipyegon will begin her quest for double success at the Paris 2024 Olympics when she leads the duo of Beatrice Chebet and Margaret Kipkemboi in chasing a ticket to the 5000m final.

All of today’s races featuring Kenyans are set to be beamed live on Kenya’s state broadcaster KBC and Supersport.

Kipyegon hopes to bag two golds in the Games having qualified for both the 5000m and the 1500m which is her favourite having been a two-time champion.

This will not be the first time the 30-year-old will be gunning for a double as she successfully delivered two golds during the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

To achieve her dream of an Olympic double, Kipyegon, who is placed in Heat 1 alongside Kipkemboi, the 2019 world silver medalist, will have to punch a ticket to the final first.

There will be absolutely no pressure on the shoulders of the two as the first top eight athletes will automatically qualify for the final.

Defending champion Sifan Hassan of Netherlands and bronze medalist Tsegay Gudaf of Ethiopia are also in Heat 1 which will have 21 athletes jostling for the eight slots.

Gudaf is the record holder having obliterated Kipyegon’s record last year.

Also seeking to mine two golds in Paris is Chebet, who is enlisted for both the 5000m and the 10000m races.

Chebet, the 10000m record holder, will be in Heat 2

The three will hope to reclaim the gold medal Kenya last won during the 2016 Rio Games courtesy of Vivian Cheruiyot, who still holds the Olympic Record.

Hellen Obiri, who has since transitioned to the marathon, bagged silver in Tokyo.
