First was Bayern who were linked with a move for Cristiano Ronaldo, now it’s Chelsea who have been credited with an interest in the Portuguese following Todd Boehly’s meeting with the player’s agent Jorge Mendes....CONTINUE READING

According to reputable source David Ornstein, Chelsea’s new owner Boehly held a meeting with Mendes last week in Portugal where they discussed the “idea” of Ronaldo moving to Stamford Bridge.

It’s still uncertain whether Boehly will push to sign Cristiano who’s reportedly worried about Man United’s chances of competing next season due to their poor transfer activities.

Chelsea are likely to make at least one marquee signing under their new owners this summer, but a potential move for Ronaldo is a risk and here’s why Thomas Tuchel should kick against such idea.

Last season, Man United chiefs The Glazers decided to bring Cristiano back to the club for a fee in the region of £19m. Ronaldo’s transfer was thought to be the final missing piece in Solskjaer’s jigsaw but it turned out to become the Norwegian’s greatest undoing.

Ole led the Red Devils to a second place finish in the 2020/21 Premier League season using young players like Martial and Rashford as his attacking options.

However, after the addition of Ronaldo to the team, things went downhill for Solskjaer who was eventually sacked for poor results. United also finished outside the top four for the first time in 3 years, meaning they won’t be playing in the Champions League next term.

There’s a belief that Ronaldo’s arrival disrupted the way Solskjaer wanted his team to play, and such could happen to Tuchel if he allows Todd Boehly to sign the 37-year old.

Tuchel is the type of coach who wants his attackers to mount pressure on the opposition’s defense by pressing extensively for the ball, something which Ronaldo will struggle to do because of his age.

Of course, the 5-time Ballon d’Or winner will guarantee goals, but it’s yet to be seen whether Tuchel will want to build a team around an ageing player who barely has an impact in games whenever he’s deprived of quality service from his teammates.

Should Todd Boehly press on and sign Cristiano Ronaldo, then it’s best Thomas Tuchel walks out of the job than suffer the same fate as Solskjaer.
