With the former Juventus player having missed Manchester United’s tours in Australia, Thailand and Melbourne,Erik ten Hag and Manchester United could be ready to kick off next season’s competitions without him.
A closed door meeting held a few days ago between the five time ballon d’or winner and the top echelons of Manchester United’s board has yielded no results, with Manchester United still insistent on keeping him and the latter professing his desire to leave the club.
This Cristiano Ronaldo’s disrespect to Manchester United by opting to leave the club for another club and threatening to terminate the one year contract leave calls for serious questioning by anyone who claims to have the interest of the club at heart.
In fact, this disrespect stretches further when you realize that Manchester United let Edinson Cavani leave the club and retained Cristiano Ronaldo instead. With all due respect to the Portuguese,El Matador had a more successful impact at Old Trafford during his one year stay at the club.
Edinson Cavani never complained that the Red Devils crashed out of the Champions League in the group stages to play in the Europa League,he never made a fuss when he was benched for Anthony Martial in a few games, and he had an irrepressible passion for the club.
In my opinion, the biggest mistake Manchester United’s board made was allowing Edinson Cavani to leave the club after his contract expired and then retaining a 37 year old forward who cares more about his legacy than the club he is playing for.
Again, Edinson Cavani led Manchester United to the Europa League final and scored a goal even though the Red Devils lost to Villarreal, which speaks volumes of the impact he had on the Manchester United’s team last two seasons ago.
The 35 year old Uruguayan striker was instrumental in Manchester United’s title charge last two seasons and their eventual finish in second place in the Premier League,a finish which earned the Red Devils a Champions League spot which Cristiano Ronaldo enjoyed before opting to leave the club amidst their crisis.
If anything, Manchester United disrespected Edinson Cavani by signing Cristiano Ronaldo to rival him in the squad and eventually letting him leave in favor of the Portuguese who doesn’t even care for the club.
Hopefully this big mistake doesn’t come back to haunt the Red Devils later.
