In what appears to be a growing rift, members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party on Monday defended Raila over remarks issued by Secretary General of Jubilee, Jeremiah Kioni, refuting the claims.

According to ODM members, Raila is still the flag bearer of the Azimio Coalition and that no meeting can be conducted without the participation of ODM as a principal party of Azimio.

Statements issued by the faction was the position of their individual parties and not that of the coalition, they explained.

ODM further fired a warning to individuals who they claimed wanted to use their party leader as a human shield to cover their party problems.

“As a party, we will not accept any continued attempt to use Raila Odinga as a human shield and any continued attempt to arm-twist him into endorsing anybody at this stage or any continued attempt to use him as an excuse of the failure of leadership in individual constituent parties of Azimio,” Homa Bay Governor Glady’s Wanga stated.

In response, Wanga issued a warning cautioning politicians against using Raila’s bid for a position at the African Union Commission to arm-twist him into taking some stands in the Azimio Coalition.

“And we will not accept the use of Raila Odinga’s bid for the African Union Commission Chairmanship to be used to pass ill-intentioned remarks disguised as well wishes and to arm-twist him on Azimio matters.”
