In a statement, the Raila Odinga-led party maintained it was built on a strong foundation, terming the rumours as ‘word on the street’.

“ODM is built on a strong foundation. It is solid and its pillars can be felt across the country. Therefore any word on the street should only remain on streets” the statement read.

The statement was a direct response to an article published recently claiming that Raila Odinga’s pursuit of the African Union Commission (AUC) chair position and President William Ruto’s endorsement of his candidature sealed a merger between the ruling party and ODM to form a formidable team for the next election.

Odinga, who has been the opposition leader since his rise to the pinnacle of Kenyan politics, appears to have shifted his focus from Kenyan politics and is a strong favourite for the AUC job.

Meanwhile, President Ruto on Wednesday embarked on a four-day development tour in Nyanza, Raila’s political backyard.

While the Kenyan political landscape is set to drastically shift ahead of the next general election, some ODM members maintain the party is not affiliated with the government.

Kisii governor, Simba Arati recently reiterated the party had not entered any pact with Ruto’s UDA, but maintained that he was willing to work with the government.

“I want to say here openly that ODM has not agreed to any pact with UDA,” Arati spoke in Kakamega county on Saturday, August 24.

” What we did was give out our members to help the president move the government forward. Those from ODM that joined the government, don’t joke with the work. I ask to work until the president sees that ODM is a good party.”

During a tour in Nyamira County on August 12, Ruto was also adamant that UDA has not struck a coalition agreement with ODM.

“We have not agreed on forming a coalition. We have only agreed that we will work together. Work that will benefit all Kenyans,” he said while also thanking ODM leaders who supported the current regime.
