The party’s Secretary General, Edwin Sifuna, made the announcement after a joint meeting of the Parliamentary Group and the National Executive Committee (NEC) on Wednesday. According to Sifuna, the meeting endorsed the call for a National Convention that would bring together all Kenyans, but only if these preconditions are met.

“We cannot have a national dialogue without justice for the victims of police brutality,” Sifuna said. “We demand that those responsible for these atrocities be held accountable and that compensation be paid to those affected.”

The ODM leader also called for the interdiction of Nairobi Police Boss Adamson Bungei, citing his alleged involvement in the brutal suppression of protests.

The party’s Central Committee had previously called for a National Convention to address long-standing issues such as negative ethnicity, unemployment, and social justice. The convention is seen as a crucial step towards finding lasting solutions to the country’s problems.

However, ODM’s conditions for dialogue have been met with skepticism by some quarters, who argue that they are an attempt to stall talks and undermine the government’s efforts to address national issues.
