The Flying Eagles of Nigeria have sealed their slot in the next phase of the ongoing 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup, following their impressive 2-0 win over one of the tournament favorites Italy on Wednesday night in Mendoza..
The Nigerian boys entered the game off the back of their hard-fought 3-2 win over the Dominican Republic in their opening game of the campaign, and they were looking for another victory over the Europeans to confirm the slot in the next phase of the tournament.
Flying Eagles of Nigeria manager, Ladan Bosso made just one change to the team against the Dominican Republic last Sunday, as he dropped Tochukwu Nnadi and then replaced him with Victor Eletu.
The West Africans had an impressive start to the game on Wednesday, as they were able to contain the Italians. They also had a couple of clear-cut chances but they were unable to find the back of the net.
However, the deadlock of the game was broken in the 61st minute when Salim Fago’s effort defeated the Italian goalkeeper to give Nigeria their well-deserved lead before Sunday Jude scored a last-gasp goal to seal the victory for the Flying Eagles, as they cruised into the next phase of the U20 World Cup in style.
