Unlike in past protests, where officers allowed groups to gather before dispersing them, today’s operation saw security forces actively breaking up even the smallest gatherings. Traffic into the city was also tightly controlled, with a particular focus on matatus, which were diverted away from the Central Business District (CBD).

Several roadblocks were set up on roads leading into the city centre. Matatus travelling on Uhuru Highway from Mombasa Road and Lang’ata Road were redirected at the Bunyala Roundabout, forcing them to access the city centre through Landhies Road.

In the afternoon, the streets of Nairobi were largely empty, with vehicles not being allowed to stop. Police appeared intent on completely clearing the CBD of human traffic.
