“He told me I could not stay at home and do nothing. He introduced me to making and selling illegal substances. He taught me how to roll bhang and sell it to a lady who would supply it to her clients. There was once when I had refused to have cosy moments with him, and he presented me with a gun and knife, asking me which I would prefer being killed with,” she recalled.
Following the scary incident, she opened up to the lady she was selling bhang to, who gave her money, and she ran away. Later, Wanjiru got into a relationship with a police officer who knew about her business but did not snitch on her in the first days.
“I started making good money to the point where I employed someone. After all, I had a police officer, and money was coming in, But the police officer was also married. So he used my money to open a cosmetics shop for his wife,” the mum of three said.
Wanjiru said the police officer’s friend warned her about her husband, but she thought the friend was jealous. It was not long before she was arrested in the house while with him, saying the officers went directly to the place she was hiding the bhang.
“I tried to plead my case and was released on KSh 80,000 cash bail. My husband’s friend, who had warned me, said he had also received a cut from the money. He had warned me, but I never listened.
“I remember my husband had opened a cosmetics shop for his wife. I went to the place, and indeed I found the shop. I bought some things and left. That was when I separated from my hubby, and he left me pregnant,” the Nairobi woman said.
Separately, a police officer who lived with his two daughters often told them that his life was coming to an end.
