A Nairobi-based company has announced that it was selling cars from a preserve price of as low as Ksh200,000. The cheapest in the lineup was a Toyota Probox manufactured in 2004 at Ksh218,000 followed by a Nissan Juke at Ksh230,000 and a Nissan March at Ksh293,000.

A Toyota Landcruiser was the most expensive at Ksh2.9 million followed by an Isuzu Dmax at Ksh2,5 million and a Toyota Harrier Hybrid valued at Ksh2.3 million.

In comparison, a Probox retails for up to Ksh800,000 and in some instances, crosses the Ksh1 million mark while a Land Cruiser TX ranges between Ksh 5.2 million and Ksh9 million.

The company announced that the vehicles listed are being sold on an as-is-where-is-basis. “Offers should be submitted on Eezycars not later than August 20, 2024,” a notice from the company read in part.

Auction pages of local dailies have been covered in advertisements from both auctioneers and companies looking to offload their automobiles.

InDaily Nationalone, a spot check showed that apart from the single company disposing of the 65 cars, several other auctioneers separately placed more than 30 cars on auction.

The auctions came as the Kenya Motor Industry Association (KMI) decried a drop in sales of cars by 13 per cent in the first five months.

The association attributed the drop to a high cost of living as well as elevated cost of loans and taxes. In the period, the new vehicle dealers sold 4,154 units compared to 4,803 sold in the same period last year…CONTINUE READING>>
