She was born and raised in Kinangop. Unfortunately, her mother died when she was in grade 4. After a few years, her father remarried. The stepmother used to mistreat them, and whenever they told their father, he couldn’t believe them.
After completing her primary education, she ran away from home and was employed as a house help in Nairobi. After working there for one year, her boss started buying her gifts and would tell her not to show his wife.
He later promised to increase her salary if she agreed to sleep with him. Joan refused and told him that she doesn’t want him to increase her salary if that was his intention. One day he found her in the kitchen after the wife had left for work and forcefully slept with her.
When she asked him why he was doing that to her, he claimed that his wife doesn’t satisfy him in bed. He threatened to kill her if she tells his wife what happened. After one week, he slept with her again, and she conceived. When the wife noticed she was pregnant, she asked her who was responsible.
