Terem Moffi of Lorient of France is expected to spearhead the Super Eagles’ attack against Algeria on Friday.
The 23-year-old is making waves in the team’s pre-friendlies practice, according to camp sources.
Moffi has been in outstanding form for Lorient this season, scoring six goals in eight games in French Ligue 1.
He has also had the opportunity to build a bid for a regular playing spot in the team due to Victor Osimhen and Umar Sadiq’s injuries.
In the Super Eagles’ most recent match, which Jose Peseiro’s team defeated Sao Tome and Principe 10-0, the forward scored twice.
The other strikers on the team are Godwin Saviour, Cyriel Dessers, and Kelechi Iheanacho.
Nigeria and Algeria played each other for the first time ever at the 2nd All-Africa Games in Lagos in 1973, which concluded in a 2-2 tie.
The West Africans must overcome each opponent, including Guinea in the championship game, in order to win the football gold medal on home soil.
