Manchester City are currently thrashing Red Bull Leipzig 6-0 in their round of 16 fixture of the UEFA Champions league. 5 of those goals were scored by Erling Haaland while Gundogan scored 1. The Leipzig team will be furious at the moment because the referee made a lot of poor decisions which affected the game. The following are 3 of such decisions:
1. The penalty that was awarded to Manchester City for their first goal: the referee gave a wrong call in this case. It happened that a Manchester City player jumped up and nodded a cross which came towards Leipzig player, Henrichs.
The ball went over the hands of Henrichs but the referee pointed to the spot without contacting the Video Assistant Referee. Replays also showed that it wasn’t a handball.
2. The second goal: During the build up to the second goal, Haaland could the goalkeeper but the referee ignored it and finally, the Norwegian scored for Manchester City.
3. Ederson’s foul: Manchester City goalkeeper, Ederson ought to have been penalised for the foul against Laimer but the referee thought otherwise.
The Brazilian goalkeeper came out from his goal area to tackle a Leipzig player and ended up fouling him. Even when Timo Werner protested over the injustice, the referee gave him a yellow card.
