Her return to office, under heavy security, has sparked outrage among Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) who had supported her removal.

Mwangaza, whose impeachment was upheld by the Senate earlier in the week, initially reappeared at her office on Thursday.

However, her full resumption of county operations on Friday raised questions about the legality of her actions.

Senator Kathuri Murungi urged Mwangaza to await a court ruling on her petition against the impeachment before resuming duties, but the governor proceeded regardless.

Governor Mwangaza met with her Cabinet, sharing her agenda on social media and affirming her commitment to Meru’s progress.

Her legal counsel, Elias Mutuma, emphasised that a court order prevented the installation of Deputy Governor Mutuma M’Ethingia as the new governor, creating a legal grey area that Mwangaza has leveraged.

Heightened security at the county headquarters reflects the tense atmosphere, with police deployed to prevent clashes.
