The man with this yet-to-be-beaten record is Mesut Özil. The German player achieved this feat for Arsenal in the 2015/16 season. The attacking midfielder (who is also proficient as a winger) made history when he created 146 chances within the season. The veteran also scored six goals and made 19 assists within the period under review.

Meanwhile, the playmaker joined the Gunners for a fee of €47m in September, 2013 and immediately fitted into the into the first team. The former Real Madrid star made one assist in his debut game and provided three in the next match to give the London club 3-1 wins.

He got to his peak in the English top flight two seasons afterwards. Meanwhile, the 2014 Word Cup winner left the English top flight in January 2021 to join Fenerbahce of Turkey as a free agent. He Finally hung his boots on March 22, 2023 aged 34 years.

The player that is closest is Kevin De Bruyne. This Belgian created 136 chances for Manchester City in the 2019/20 to rank second in history. Frenchman Dimitri Payet made 135 key passes for Olympique Marseille in French Ligue 1 one year before Ozil’s current hard-to-beat record.

Interestingly, Payet was second to the German (in the EPL) with 119 chances for West Ham 2015/16 season. Another person on the list is Frank Lampard who is the first player to create more than 130 chances in the Big 5 Leagues.

The Englishman made 134 key passes for Chelsea in the 2008/09 season. Interestingly, each of these players made at least one record-breaking chances in the EPL.
