A stray pass by Blues defender Wesley Fofana was intercepted by Bruno Fernandes, who then played it back inside to Rashford.

Fofana had an opportunity to make amends but was outfoxed by the Man United forward, who dummied the ball and tapped it home after Kepa Arrizabalaga saved his initial shot.

The strike is Rashford’s 30th this season in all competitions, making him the first Red Devils player to reach that tally in a campaign since Robin van Persie, who did it in the 2012/13 season.

It was a stress-free evening for Erik ten Hag’s men, who went 2-0 up at half time thanks to goals by Casemiro and Anthony Martial.

Fofana made his first clanger on 73 minutes as he tripped Bruno Fernandes inside the Chelsea box, with the Portuguese netting the resulting penalty.

The only negative for the home side came in the first half when Antony was stretchered off the pitch after a challenge by Trevoh Chalobah, leading to fears the Brazilian will be unavailable for the FA Cup final on June 3.

Joao Felix scored a consolation goal after Rashford’s strike to cap off a miserable evening and season for Frank Lampard’s side.

The result sees Man United secure their place in next season’s Champions League alongside Newcastle, with Liverpool having to settle for the Europa League.
