Manchester United fear they will be forced to sell Marcus Rashford over the summer with the England star approaching the end of his contract.

The 25-year-old is attracting attention from some of the biggest clubs including Real Madrid, with Los Blancos looking for a long-term replacement for talisman Karim Benzema.

Rashford has returned to form for United this season after struggling during the 2021/22 campaign with injury issues, scoring eight and contributing 3 assists in 19 appearances in all competitions.

He has also been one of England’s best players at the World Cup finding the net three times as he sits atop the tournament’s goal-scoring chart.

However, he is rapidly approaching the end of his contract which has just six months remaining. United have the option to extend it by another year which protects against the risk of losing him for nothing this summer.

United have offered him a new deal worth around £300,000 per week but he is yet to sign it with fears growing that they may be forced to cash in during the upcoming transfer windows to avoid losing him for free in 2024.

The Mirror reports the Red Devils will listen to offers in the region of £80million for him if he does not sign a new deal to receive a return on their investment in their academy graduate.

Real Madrid are believed to be at the front of the queue should he be placed on the market as they seek a long-term replacement for Ballon d’Or winner Benzema.

Rashford will be pushing for an England starting spot in the round of 16 against Senegal today after finding the net twice against Wales on Tuesday.

Competition for a place in the front three is tough with Raheem Sterling, Bukayo Saka, Phil Foden and Jack Grealish all competing with the 25-year-old for the wide positions.

He was praised by Gareth Southgate after the game who stressed how happy he is with Rashford’s progression since his difficult Euro 2020 campaign.

“It has been a challenge for him,” he said. “I went and saw him in the summer, had a big chat with him and he had some clear ideas on things he felt he needed to think about.

“You can see with his club there has happiness in his performances and that has shown itself on the training ground. We have a different version (of him) completely to the Euros. That’s great for him and for us.”
