Despite this, the club came in sixth place in the league standings. For the fifth time in a row, they failed to win a trophy.

This has fueled speculation that he may leave, but United have made it clear that they do not want to lose his services this summer.

His agent, Jorge Mendes, has recently contacted Bayern Munich and Chelsea, but Manchester United are adamant that the 37-year-old will not leave the club.

United had hoped to sign a marquee striker this month, but their priorities have shifted after missing out on Darwin Nunez.

Following the setback, the club is willing to rely on Ronaldo up front and will instead try to sign a more versatile forward.

Antony from Ajax is the main transfer target, but he will cost at least €80 million.
