In the match against Parma on Sunday, Lukaku scored an added-time equaliser, marking his spectacular debut for his new team. His choice of shirt number also caused a stir. For his first home game, ‘Big Rom’ opted for the number 11, an unexpected choice as he has traditionally worn either 9 or 90 throughout his career, with the exception of his time at Everton where he chose the number 10.

Although the number 9 was available after Victor Osimhen’s departure, Lukaku declined the offer to wear the number, out of respect for the Nigerian who was still part of the squad when he arrived. This gesture was well received by the fans and reinforced his image as a player who respects sporting values. Eventually, Osimhen found a new team, joining Galatasaray on loan until next June, where he will face Michy Batshuayi instead of competing with Lukaku.

Lukaku immediately impressed his teammates and observers. Former Inter defender and Italian international Daniele Adani was full of praise for him: “The best striker in Serie A is Romelu Lukaku. In my opinion, it’s obvious. Without devaluing the others, Lukaku has that extra asset, his connection with the coach.
