A new name has been linked to Klopp’s side who plays for Benfica. Many big European are chasing to sign him, and monitoring his progress.

Klopp’s Liverpool has a slow start this season, and they are looking to strengthen the ageing midfielders.

Earlier this summer, Enzo Fernandez joined Benfica from Argentina giants River Plate for a fee of €10 million. The Argentine young talent is a product of River Plate’s academy.

He joined the club in 2006. He became one of the brightest talents in Argentina after scoring 12 goals and registering 10 assists in his 53 appearances for the senior team.

After such brilliant form, he caught the eyes of many big European giants. But Benfica won his signature. Rumours suggested that Wolves and Juventus were also lurking around to bring this bright talent to European football.

According to Sky Sport‘s Melissa Reddy, Liverpool kept an eye on Enzo Fernandez and tracked the player’s development in Portugal.

The midfielder has already sealed his position in the first team by making 13 appearances for the club. He has three goals in all competitions for Benfica. He also netted in both of Benfica’s Champions League qualifying games against FC Midtjylland.

The midfielder was also in the club’s opening game against Arouca last month.
The player has yet to feature for the senior side of the Argentina national team. He has already two caps for the Under 20 level.

But his name has recently featured in the upcoming friendlies against Honduras and Jamaica and will probably get his first senior minutes for his national team.

The youngster has achieved August’s player of the month in Portugal after his consistent bright display in the games. The midfielder is hoping for a place in Lionel Scaloni’s World Cup squad as few months remain.

Benfica’s Comments on the Player’s Future

As the rumours of the leaving the club growing, Benfica boss Roger Schmidt expects that the player will stay. The manager thinks that Benfica is “the perfect place to develop”. He also talked about the player being ‘great’, “focused, professional” etc.

After joining the club, Fernandez signed a five-year deal with Benfica. His current contract will run until 2027 and has a humongous release clause of €120 million. His former club will also acquire 25 per cent of the selling fee if the player signs for another club.

All the midfielders of Liverpool like James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita are in the final year of their contract.

The Reds are in the market for a new midfielder. Their primary target is Jude Bellingham, but Enzo is also under their radar in case the Bellingham deal fails.
