In a press conference, KNUT Secretary- General, Collins Oyuu, stated that the CBA, which was signed and deposited in the Employment and labour relations court, should be honored by Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
“We agreed last year on the amendment of the CBA that was to cut across two phases. Phase one was paid in 2023, July. Phase two was to be paid in 2024, July. This has not happened,” said the Oyuu.
He further stated that a seating was to be held on Wednesday, August 7, with TSC before issuing a strike notice.
“The first steps to write to the employer and demand for a seating, which we have done. We should be sitting tomorrow, the 7thof August 2024. Then, we shall proceed ahead and give a strike notice,” stated the Oyuu.
Oyuu mentioned that he was aware that the strike may affect the third term of the academic year, but he believes that it was necessary for the strike to take place.
“When you talk of third term, my answer is this is the best time. This is the best time. Because everybody knows all about third term. We have a lot of restraints, in pulling up shots for a legal action. But, because of what has happened a push has got to show. We cannot listen anymore,” he said.
He commented on the issue of deductions, that have not been remitted to banks.
“The issue of deductions, that have not been remitted to banks, it is very logical that a teacher has a loan, the teacher knows too well that he or she is comfortably repaying the loan, but the banks are writing to them, meaning this money was deducted to be remitted to the bank, it has not reached the bank,” said Oyuu....CONTINUE READING>>
