Residents argue that while other regions appointed their most seasoned political leaders to shape policies in the Cabinet—such as John Mbadi and Opiyo Wandayi from Nyanza, Hassan Joho from the Coast, and Wycliffe Oparanya from Western—Kiambu’s choice reflects poorly on its leadership.
However, according to Kiambu Senator Karungo Wa Thangwa, he was not consulted in the process of selecting a cabinet secretary from his county and dismissed the Majority Leader’s statement, terming it as misleading.
”As an MP representing Kiambu County as their Senator, I want to clarify that I was not consulted in the selection of the new Cabinet Secretary from our county, nor was I invited to participate in that process.
It is misleading for the Kikuyu MP to suggest that all Kiambu MPs were involved. If I had been consulted, I would not have proposed the current CS for Agriculture, as I am not familiar with him,” the Kiambu Senator said in a Wednesday morning statement.
The decision to replace Moses Kuria, seen by many as an experienced and capable politician, with a perceived novice has not sat well with the electorate.
Kikuyu MP Ichung’wah has been accused of being an arrogant, know-it-all leader who is divisive and dismissive, feeling overly important due to his proximity to President Ruto.
“Just like Icarus, he is flying too close to the sun,” remarked one resident, implying that Ichung’wah’s perceived overconfidence could lead to his downfall.
