The SEZ, which spans approximately 3,000 acres, is strategically located near the Port of Mombasa, the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), Moi International Airport, and the Southern Bypass Road, making it a prime location for logistics.

The project, implemented by the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) and funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), will see affected residents from Dongo Kundu, Mwangala, Mrongondoni, Kaya Mtongwe, Mbuta, and Siji villages relocated to 357 acres of land to make way for development.

Trade and Industry Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya confirmed the verification of beneficiaries and assured that all stakeholders would collaborate to resolve any obstacles to the project’s success.

The government reported that 97 investors have expressed interest in the SEZ, with 60% being local investors. The zone is expected to attract key industries, including energy, pharmaceuticals, and glass manufacturing.

CS Mvurya also warned inactive investors holding licenses within the SEZ, indicating that the Special Economic Zones Authority might revoke licenses to ensure active participation.
