Should the proposal pass, the authority explained that it will help relieve the Road Maintenance Levy (RML) collected from fuel tax, allowing it to fund new projects.

“This could free RMLF to fund new road projects, as the tolled roads may not be candidates for the RMLF fund,” said KeNHA.

If KeNHA’s proposals become law, the six major roads will be tolled, like the Nairobi Superhighway.

Sifuna opposed tolling roads funded by taxpayers, calling for KeNHA officials to be summoned to the Senate for clarification.

He suggested that KeNHA should build new toll roads instead of charging for existing ones, expressing his disapproval on social media.
