On Tuesday, Jaime Harrison, the chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), appeared on MSNBC’s Morning Joe to talk about President Joe Biden’s decision to step down from the 2024 race, and his endorsement of Harris as a Democratic candidate for president.

During his appearance, Harrison was asked about a timeline for Harris to choose a running mate, and he explained that the DNC has “built a system in terms of the nomination process so that our nominee of the party has some opportunity in order to go through a vetting process for their VP.”

“In order to be on the ballot in all 50 states, we have to have all of this wrapped up by August 7. So, if the nominee so chooses…we will likely have our VP nominee also by August 7,” Harrison said.

Harris’ list of potential running mates has narrowed and includes one U.S. senator and several prominent Democratic governors, according to a new report.
