US Democratic Party nominee Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign has achieved a record-breaking fundraising milestone. The impressive fundraising total, as per AFP, includes contributions from the campaign itself, the Democratic National Committee (DNC), and joint fundraising committees.

Notably, one-third of these donations came from first-time contributors, reported campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon said in a memo.

Dillon said that the campaign “officially crossed the $500 million mark,” shortly before Harris’s nomination acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) on Thursday. The campaign saw its highest fundraising hour “since launch day,” immediately following her speech.

“In just over a month since we launched our campaign, Team Harris-Walz raised $540 million – a record for any campaign in history.”

In contrast, Republican nominee Donald Trump’s campaign reported $327 million in cash on hand at the start of August.

Harris’s campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon described the Trump campaign’s battleground infrastructure as “incredibly sparse” compared to Harris’s growing network of supporters and volunteers. The current US Vice President’s campaign as per Dillon has mobilised “a virtual army of volunteers.”

“Meanwhile, Donald Trump’s battleground infrastructure remains incredibly sparse,” she added.

With less than three weeks before their debate in Philadelphia on September 10, Harris and Trump are neck to neck in the polls.
