Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka now says the Kenya Kwanza government should consider launching their own mega road infrastructure and introduce tollin on them.

Speaking to the media in Embu on Sunday, Kalonzo opposed government’s proposal to toll existing roads built by the previous administrations.

“I want to tell Ruto and his people, if you want to bring road tolls again, please go build your own roads,” he said.

“Not the ones that former late President Mwai Kibaki and retired President Uhuru Kenyatta built. And then you can introduce the toll.”

Kalonzo said that the Thika Superhighway was built to give the people of the Mt Kenya region ability to get their farms and homes.

He added that the introduction of toll stations on the highway will put more pressure on the people.

“So, we will reject it and if they take it to the Parliament, call the legislators out,” Kalonzo added.

The authority added that once the policy is finalised, it will guide which roads will be tolled.

Among the roads under consideration are Nairobi Southern Bypass, Nairobi-Nakuru-Mau Summit Highway and Thika Superhighway.

Others are the Kenol-Sagana-Marua Road, the Mombasa Southern Bypass and the Dongo Kundu Bypass.

KeNHA assured that it will remain committed to transparency and inclusivity throughout the process and will continue to engage with the public at every stage…CONTINUE READING>>
