Kwa Vonza Member of County Assembly, Hon. Mark Ndingo, has urged Kalonzo to step up and take charge of the opposition. “With Raila Odinga stepping back from local politics, it is now time for Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka to take up the role of opposition leader,” said Ndingo.

Raila, who has been a central figure in Kenyan politics for decades, announced his decision to step back to concentrate on his bid for the AU Commission’s top job. President William Ruto is expected to formally announce Raila’s candidacy for the position next Tuesday, further solidifying Kenya’s backing for his continental ambitions.

The decision has left a gap in the opposition leadership, which many believe Kalonzo Musyoka is well-positioned to fill. Kalonzo, a seasoned politician and former Vice President, has been a key ally of Raila in the Azimio coalition and is seen as a capable leader who can continue to hold the government accountable.
