Junet expressed remorse over his pre-election sentiments during Cooperatives Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya’s homecoming party attended by Ruto in Butere, Kakamega County.
The MP, a close ally of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga claimed he made the sentiments in defence of his party leader who was Ruto’s political opponent at the time.
“His Excellency the President, just like my colleague, I want to ask for your forgiveness because I said a lot of this during the campaign period and you also said a lot of about Raila,” Junet stated.
“You said he was not the right person, so let us forgiveeach other and move on,” he added.
The vocal legislator went ahead to commend the Head of State for nominating four of his party colleagues to plum ministerial positions.
According to Junet, President Ruto made the right decision to appoint cabinet secretaries from the opposition party to ensure his government reflects the face of Kenya.
“Your Excellency, we are happy that you appointed our most competent members into your government. People like Oparanya, Joho, Mbadi, and Wandayi now have jobs, who doesn’t want a job?” Junet questioned.
Junet further dismissed claims that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party is hatching a plan with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to collapse the political formations into one unit ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to the National Assembly Minority leader, ODM’s recent dalliance with UDA was geared at one purpose; which in his view is to unite Kenyans.
“Some of our members decided to join Ruto’s administration. We must let them work. The rest of us remaining in the opposition must also continue with our oversight responsibility, so these rumours circulating that ODM has merged with UDA are false,” the Suna East MP clarified.
