During his live-streamed conversation with Elon Musk a day earlier, Trump said Putin respected his authority as president, claiming, “I said to Vladimir Putin, I said, ‘don’t do it, you can’t do it Vladimir, you do it, it’s gonna be a bad day. You cannot do it.’ And he said ‘no way,’ and I said, ‘way.’”
After hearing the audio, The Tonight Show audience roared and Fallon took a beat, opening and closing his mouth wordlessly a few times.
“Apparently Trump and Putin talk to each other like Wayne and Garth,” he said, referencing the 1992 movieWayne’s Worldabout two friends who host a public-access television show.
