Sunday, who made this remark in his 2022 New Year Message stressed that the genesis of his agitation for a Yoruba nation was the insecurity in Ibarapaland and other places in the South-West where farmers are habitually maimed, hacked to death, kidnapped and raped in their farms.

Though his intentions to end insecurity in the South-West is quite commendable, Sunday Igboho shouldn’t have resorted to insecurity in the South-West as a reason to call for Yoruba secession from Nigeria.

Every Countries of the world have one civil problem or the other that confronts them now and then. There’s no country that is immune to civil challenges. However, does it then mean that geo-political zones of those countries should opt for secession anytime a problem arises in a country?

Sunday Igboho should’ve thought of a way to put up a collaborative effort with the Government to end the killings in the South-West other than opting for secession, even when the Government are trying their best to bring insecurity to an end in all corners of the country.

Talking of which, if insecurity was to be a cogent reason that should call for secession, the Northeast geopolitical zone which have been under the nefarious activities of Boko Haram terrorists for many years now would’ve reached for secession long time ago. But such thing didn’t occur. Rather, the people of the Northeast try as much as they can to cooperate with the Government in exploring the best solutions to their insecurity challenge. They believe strongly in the effective efforts of the government, hoping that government will surely triumph over the war against Boko Haram terrorists and insecurity in their region.

On this note, having insecurity as a basis for Secession just the way Sunday Igboho did is one of the most flimsy excuse ever. He shouldn’t use insecurity as a basis for secession, especially when the government are fighting tooth and nail to profer a solution to it. Rather, he should use his financial and social influence to support the government.
