In a report on Punch News, two Nigerians simply identified as Alex and Ibeh have been reportedly arrested by the Indian Police over suspected marriage scam. According to the report, the suspects have allegedly defrauded many women in India through fake marriage promises.
On how the suspects operate, the Indian Police revealed that the suspect go on dating websites where they pose as marine engineers and rich IT professionals after which they would lure the Indian women and start demanding money from them.
The suspects were arrested after one of their victims, a 24 years old woman reported the matter to the Police. The woman who is said to be a resident of the President Estate area, alleged she lost Rs 4 lakh (Over 2 Million Naira) to the suspects.
Giving a statement on the development, the Indian Police said: “The accused, Alex (30) and Ibeh (45), have been cheating women for months in the name of sending/receiving gifts. The matter came to light when a 24-year-old woman, a resident of the President Estate area, alleged she lost Rs 4 lakh.”
“The woman told us she met a man named Aman Arora on a matrimonial site. He said he was a marine in the UK. They started talking on WhatsApp and the man told her he was coming to Mumbai to meet her. The men worked with other gang members who were Nigerians, and cheated multiple women.”
