It is important to always ensure that you are in a safe environment where electricity is not a hazard to you or any of your family members. It is also important that members of the public be educated on how to handle electric fires whenever they occur to avoid property damage or loss of life.
Even though electric fires are dangerous, there are some things you can do immediately when you see one to avoid any further harm. The most important thing is that you should not panic but instead look for a solution.
In the event of an electric fire in your home, do the following immediately to stabilize the situation.
Ensure that you isolate the power source; if there is a main switch or isolator, rush and shut it off, saving further harm from the fire. If the fire persists, use a fire extinguisher or a fire blanket to extinguish it. The fire blanket will be used to eliminate an oxygen source whenever it is used to cover the fire and put it out.
The fire extinguisher used should be for Class C fires during such instances since it is specifically for that purpose. Always check your fire extinguisher before using it.
