Lenolkulal was on Wednesday found guilty of corruptly receiving Sh83.3 million for the supply of petroleum products to the Samburu county government when he was the governor.
Chief Magistrate Thomas Nzyoki said from the evidence produced in court by the prosecutors, it was not in doubt that Lenolkulal and his proxy Hesbon Ndathi were the ultimate beneficiaries of the public funds.
He said there is overwhelming evidence that Lenolkulal being the governor of Samburu at the time the offences are said to have been committed acted in a conflict of interest.
The magistrate relied on over 200 payment vouchers as evidence of Lenolkulal’s direct trading with the county.
He said his integrity was compromised by private interest.
Lenolkulal who spent the night in custody after being denied bail is expected to be sentenced today.
In the same anti-corruption court, the case against oil tycoon Yagnesh Devani is coming up for pre-trial directions.
Devani was early this month charged with corruption-related offences owing to the Sh7 billion Triton oil scandal of 2009.
He was released on Sh20 million bond with an alternative bail of Sh5 million.
