Recall that before now, the duo were not best of friends, particularly as a result of the aftermath of the 2019 Imo state governorship election. However, in a sudden turn of events, which has seen Nwosu’s father-in-law, Senator Rochas Okorocha, and Governor Hope Uzodinma, became political foes, many are of the view that a joint ticket of Ihedioha and Uche Nwosu, is all that is needed to end Governor Uzodinma’s dream of a second-term. Should the rumours ever become reality, a joint 2023 governorship ticket of Emeka Ihedioha and Uche Nwosu, could be too strong for Governor Hope Uzodinma to defeat for several reasons. First of all, it is important to note that Governor Hope Uzodinma, and Senator Rochas Okorocha, are from the same Imo West Senatorial district (Orlu). However, Rochas, who is a former Governor of the state, arguably has more followers in the zone than Governor Hope Uzodinma.
Secondly, Imo East Senatorial district, which is commonly known as Owerri zone, are solidly behind Emeka Ihedioha at all times. This would leave Governor Hope Uzodinma with only Imo North Senatorial district (Okigwe) for any chance of re-election. However, the zone does not have the voting power of Orlu and Owerri zones.
Also, there are chances that many people in the state, who are not happy with the manner in which Emeka Ihedioha was sacked by the Supreme Court, would give him their maximum support, to ensure that he returns to power in 2023. With this, coupled with the political influence of Richards Okorocha, and Uche Nwosu, one can boldly say that an Ihedioha/Nwosu joint 2023 governorship ticket, could be too strong for Governor Hope Uzodinma to conquer.
