I was living in Ajegunle in Lagos State. In fact, I was the definition of poverty. I met a girl in the market who said she had a connection for us to go to Dubai and eat shit for 20 million naira each, with all travel expenses covered.
We would stay there for seven days. I didn’t even think twice; I agreed because I told myself that after eating it, I could rush to the bathroom to vomit it out.
But I was met with a surprise after we got to Dubai. What the girl didn’t tell us was that for those seven days, we would be eating shit as food morning, afternoon, and night.
That was our first surprise. The second one was that we couldn’t use the toilet after eating; we had to stay there for at least two hours before we could excuse ourselves. I wanted to opt out, but they said we would have to pay them for the tickets, which I couldn’t afford, and I was in a foreign land.
So, we ate shit from the first day to the seventh day. This man treated us like dogs. Today, when I remember what I went through in Dubai, I prefer to have remained poor and stayed on the streets in Ajegunle. After we got back, we enjoyed the money, but health issues began two years later.
I started having sicknesses that couldn’t be diagnosed. Sometimes, I vomit blood and green stuff. I am having discharges everywhere, and I smell really bad now. It has made me stop going outside because everyone covers their nose around me anytime I pass by.
