My husband’s family quickly took charge. They told me to pack a few things and come to the village for the funeral arrangements. They took his bank card and other valuables, saying it was customary. I didn’t protest much as they provided for us during this tough time.

But on the day of the funeral, things took a horrifying turn. Some family members accused me of causing my husband’s death. They said the only way to prove my innocence was to drink the water used to wash his body. I was shocked and refused, offering to swear on anything else instead. They insisted that without drinking the water, I’d be seen as guilty. I refused, thinking of my children and my own safety.
