But Dr Kimaiyo’s reign would only last two years before he was unceremoniously hounded out of office amid runaway insecurity in the country at the time.

Joseph Boinett, a seasoned spy would later be picked by the then President Uhuru Kenyatta as the new police chief.

As for Kimaiyo, a one-time GSU Commandant and former Presidential Escort Unit Commander, he was given a soft landing after being appointed as the Kenya Airports Authority board chairperson.

He would serve in the position for almost one year before his appointment was revoked by Uhuru. In 2018, he was appointed as the new Kenyatta National Hospital board chairman.

But a few months later, he was pushed out of office as Uhuru appointed former Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo as the new KNH boss. This would mark the end of the road for the former IG in the public service.

In 2017, he made a huge plunge into the murky world of politics when he ran for the Elgeyo Marakwet County Senator position on a KANU party ticket. However, he lost to the incumbent, Kiipchumba Murkomen who is now the Roads Cabinet Secretary.
