The English manager is looking work on some errors Thomas Tuchel made at Chelsea. One of the those errors concerns the case of Romelu Lukaku.

There are still some significant changes to be made at Chelsea under Graham Potter but these changes may not necessarily involve spending hundreds of millions of pounds on the squad even though there is a great need to sign a midfielder and a forward. It may actually involve the bringing players sent on loan back to the Chelsea team.

According to some reports, it seems that Graham Potter is interested in having Lukaku back at Chelsea. But the problem here is that it could be a risky call early on his Chelsea tenure.

Romelu Lukaku rejoined Chelsea from Inter Milan for £97.5m in 2021.Thomas Tuchel was in desperate need of a center forward and that was what made him to go all out for the Belgian forward.

Lukaku struggled to find his form under Thomas Tuchel and managed to score about eight goals in the premier league.

After that interview, in which Lukaku criticised Tuchel’s tactical use of him and declared his loving feelings for Inter Milan, the Belgian was out of favour and never regained his early season form.

He was handed just 16 premier league stats last season. This season he was sent back to Inter Milan on a loan and he has currently scored one goal and providing one assist.

Graham Potter has welcomed the idea of bringing Lukaku back to Chelsea to boost his attack next summer. But According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Lukaku has no intention to return to Stamford Bridge.

There is still a possibility that his loan may be extended and he could remain at Inter Milan until the end of 2023-24 season. This is actually an early transfer blow for Graham Potter.

According to Lukaku on his arrival to Inter Milan, he said “I think that in a year everyone has forgotten some things that I am able to do in the field. That’s some kind of anger that I have inside of me.

Which now the team also has, which did not win last year: all together we hope to do better and bring something home.

In March, when I learned there was an opportunity to come back here, I didn’t say anything, but towards the end of the season we did a great job with the club and I was able to come back here. I only reflect at the end of the season, so after the last game I started to think about my situation alone.”

It is very possible that Lukaku would fit into Graham Potter’s system than Thomas Tuchel’s flexible front line. The truth is that Tuchel’s tactics favoured mostly the back four and the wing backs and this was what affected Lukaku’s performance.

At Brighton, Graham Potter made a very good use of Danny Welbeck despite his speed and technical deficiencies so it is very possible that Lukaku would thrive under him.

But I really don’t think that lot of Chelsea fans would agree to this as Romelu Lukaku is possibly the worst transfer ever made by the club.
