Governor Chelilim emphasised that the actions of a few unscrupulous organisations have unfairly tarnished Eldoret’s reputation as a thriving, cosmopolitan hub.
He assured residents and investors that Eldoret would continue to expand, innovate, and create opportunities.
To combat these fraudulent activities, Chelilim declared an immediate crackdown.
According to Bii, his administration, in collaboration with local and national authorities, will revoke any business licences found to be in violation of regulations.
He stated that the goal of this action is to restore public trust and ensure that such deceptive practices are promptly addressed.
The Uasin Gishu county boss also urged the National Employment Authority and the Ministry of Labour to tighten vetting procedures for international opportunities, reinforcing accountability at all levels to protect Eldoret’s citizens.
“Eldoret should be celebrated for its achievements and potential, not marred by the actions of those who prey on our hard-working residents,” Chelilim said.
He expressed deep empathy for the students and families affected by these scams and urged the public to exercise caution and conduct due diligence before engaging with any opportunity that seems suspicious.
The City of Eldoret has been in the headlines over a slew of financial scams in the recent past, including dubious recruitments and forex scams.
