Speaking during a church service in Mung’au, Embu County, the lawmaker noted that it is high time the region’s political allegiance splits from the bigger Mt Kenya region since they are equally represented and have influential leaders in the government.

‘‘I think it is high time we divide the mountain so that we can have a Mt Kenya East and West. This daily politics of winning that Mt Kenya is this and that, we are tired of it,’’ he told the congregation.

Ruku, therefore, called upon its leaders and citizens to unite and negotiate for development issues independently under the leadership of their Cabinet Secretaries in the government.

In what was seen as an indirect target at the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Laikipia East Member of Parliament Mwangi Kiunjiri who have been trying to fight over who calls shots at the region, Ruku argued that the move will accord Mt Kenya East leaders who respect the citizens.

The lawmaker added that the move was informed by frequent threats of politics from their counterparts from the Western side of the mountain who he argued are involved in constant politics over who the leader of Mt Kenya is.

Speaking during a meeting at Queen’s Garden Hotel in Eldoret, Kiunjuri claimed that Gachagua’s recent efforts to consolidate support within Mt Kenya are part of a broader scheme.
