The situation became particularly apparent after President Ruto returned to Kenya from a trip to Germany. Typically, when the President comes back from an international visit, the Deputy President is expected to greet him at the airport. However, this time, Deputy President Gachagua was noticeably absent. Instead, President Ruto was welcomed by CS Kithure Kindiki and other leaders. This absence of Gachagua at such an important moment raised eyebrows and fueled speculation about their strained relationship.

The situation didn’t improve after this event. The President then traveled to Nyeri, a town in Kenya. During a church event in Nyeri, Deputy President Gachagua arrived late, and even then, he did not extend a warm welcome to President Ruto. This further highlighted the growing gap between the two leaders.

The lack of a warm reception and the absence of Gachagua from key events have led many to question the current state of their relationship.
