The DP’s remarks come in response to criticism he’s faced in his efforts to rally support behind him within his Mt Kenya region political base.

During the burial service of former NACADA chief executive officer Victor Okioma in Kiminini, the DP took on his critics.

He questioned why he is branded a tribalist when he calls for the unity of Mt Kenya, while other leaders, such as Trans Nzoia governor George Natembeya, are praised for similar calls.

Gachagua lamented that his calls for unity in the Mt. Kenya region are often met with accusations of tribalism, contrasting this with the reception given to leaders from other parts of the country.

He questioned if there was one law for the Mt Kenya region and another for the rest of Kenyans.

“When I talk about unity in my region, people immediately label me a tribalist. I don’t understand the criteria, because hasn’t Natembeya called for the people of Western to unite? I haven’t heard anyone accuse him of tribalism.

But when I, from the mountain region, say the people of the mountain should unite, suddenly it’s, “Tribalist! Tribalist!” Are there different sets of laws for Kenya? Do you want the mountain to unite or not,” the DP said.

The second in command stated that the country’s unity should start from the regions before the country becomes one.

He explained that communities must first be able to speak in one voice before having a cohesive nation.

“I want to say that all politics is local. And just like you’re saying, Natembeya, I’m with you on this. You can’t unite the country when communities or regions are divided. You first put your own region together, then reach out to other regions so that we can have one cohesive country.

But you’re lucky; I often see you calling for unity, and no one attacks you. Let everyone unite their own region, and then we can all come together for one cohesive country,” the DP opined.

Earlier, Gachagua warned of plots against the Mt Kenya region, accusing individuals of sowing disunity among residents.

Gachagua highlighted his awareness of these schemes and urged Mt Kenya residents to wake up and recognise the threat, warning of a future of darkness.

To counter these efforts, the DP appealed to the elderly in the region, likening the politicians causing division to children….CLICK HERE FOR MORE ARTICLE>>>
