While Gabon is still in the running for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, this affair could upset the Panthers’ ambitions.

According to Gabon Media Time, Patrice Neveu recently asked FIFA to suspend Gabon from all international competitions. If FIFA grants this request, Gabon could be excluded from major tournaments such as the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2026 World Cup.

The source of the conflict dates back to Gabon’s elimination from the 2023 AFCON in Mauritania. Following this poor performance, the Gabonese Football Federation decided to dismiss Patrice Neveu despite a current contract. Disputing this decision, Neveu took the matter to FIFA and won his case. FIFA deemed the dismissal unfair and ordered the Gabonese Federation to pay 522,000 euros, or more than 342 million FCFA, to the coach.

However, according to Gabon Media Time, the Federation has still not honored this payment, prompting Patrice Neveu to contact FIFA again, this time to request the suspension of Gabon from international competitions.
