The couple was found in possession of the counterfeit currency during an investigation into fraudulent payments made by the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).

EACC detectives had been probing suspicious payments amounting to Ksh.199 million made to Beirut Pharmacy and Medical Centre in Eastleigh by the NHIF between 2021 and 2023.

During their search, they also visited the homes of other individuals linked to the case, including Beirut directors and NHIF officials.

According to a source at EACC, Tepo reportedly brandished a Ceska handgun upon the arrival of the detectives at his home, but later cooperated with the search.

The investigation team recovered the weapon, which had an expired firearm permit, along with two briefcases filled with fake U.S. dollars and various chemicals.

The seized counterfeit money has been transferred to the EACC Police Station to support a criminal case against the couple.

Additionally, the search conducted at the couple’s residence revealed other valuable evidence, including original NHIF claim forms, patient lists, bank transaction slips, property ownership documents, and electronic devices.

All individuals involved in the investigation, including Tepo and Roka, were interviewed and their statements recorded.
